Join our hybrid (virtual/in-person) event to celebrate WWD, reflect, learn, and act — because living in harmony with nature begins where we are.
Biodiversity loss affects livelihoods and ecosystems across the planet. But each one of us can be part of the solution.
Let's explore: A) Why wildlife connections (plants, fungi, animals) matter locally and globally. B) How collaboration and policy engagement amplify impact. C) What practical actions we can take at home, at work, and in our community toward restoration, innovation, and redesigned relationships with the living world.
Visit together4biodiversity.org for details and registration.

Throughout the mid-Atlantic, streams and rivers are common – but have you ever considered the impact of the plants that grow along these waterways? From a canopy of leaves which provide food and habitat all year round to deep roots which secure stream banks, riparian plants play a critical and beautiful role in stream health. Join Watershed Specialists Lauren McGrath and Anna Walsh as they share their research on three headwater stream ecosystems in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Since 2018, the two have been monitoring water quality to better understand the connection between land and water and determine how they can strategically restore the water's edge to strengthen our ties to the landscape, from fragile headwaters all the way downstream. Learn from these experts, who have planted over 2,800 trees in the last five years, about the benefits of planting diverse native trees and shrubs for wildlife, including birds, insects, and mammals like beaver and otter, for watershed health, and for local communities. Attendees will learn more about riparian plants, freshwater ecosystems, and what role they can play in studying, saving, and restoring this dynamic system for future generations.

As in past years, we nature lovers and grassroots at CIEDM are to hold a single local event to support and take part in the celebrations of two global awareness campaigns – the UN World Seagrass Day and World Wildlife Day, at the Arcadia Ecohome Miocroforest. Our actions include event registrations, cleanups of the Microforest and surrounding public properties such as street roadways and parkways, specifically the Ecohome’s Ocean Friendly Garden to reduce stormwater and plastic pollution in waterways and waterbodies, a citizen-science based bioblitz walk at and around the Microforest to enjoy, record and share any spotting, and a social media campaign for the two UN campaigns to raise public awareness of the campaign messages and what we grassroots are doing.

In 2026, World Wildlife Day (WWD2026) will shine a spotlight on the critical role of medicinal and aromatic plants.

Medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) are essential for both human health and ecological balance. Around the world, people collect and use MAPs, including roses, hydrangeas and hummingbirds are primarily attracted to the vibrant colors of roses and hydrangeas rather than their nectar. Roses, particularly their petals and hips, offer medicinal benefits like rich antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, astringent, and mood-boosting properties, used for skin care (soothing irritation, hydrating), digestion (IBS, cramps), heart health (blood pressure), PMS relief (cramps, headaches), and as immune support due to high Vitamin C in rose hips, commonly consumed as teas, tinctures, or topical applications like rosewater and oils. Hydrangea root (Hydrangea arborescens) is primarily used in traditional herbal medicine as a diuretic and to support urinary tract health, particularly for managing kidney stones, bladder infections, and gravel. Its compounds, such as coumarin, offer anti-inflammatory effects. It is commonly consumed as teas, tinctures, or capsules.

With my Flag CCL series which I prepared for the 250th anniversary of the USA, my Rose Flag, Hydrangea & Rose Flag and Flowers Butterflies and Hummingbirds Flag celebrates World Wildlife Day.

Environmental & Public Health International (EPHI) is celebrating World Wildlife Day 2025 with the launch of a new update to its multilingual Lead Service Line Replacement Cost Calculator (LSLRCC), a free, open-access modeling tool that helps communities, utilities, and governments plan equitable and cost-effective lead service line replacement projects.

Recognized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the LSLRCC demonstrates how investing in people and planet can advance both public health and ecosystem resilience. By supporting climate-resilient infrastructure, safe drinking water, and sustainable urban development, EPHI contributes to a healthier environment for people and wildlife alike.

This update reinforces EPHI’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health), SDG 6 (Clean Water), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land), helping communities protect biodiversity, promote equity, and strengthen the shared natural systems that sustain life on Earth.

This is an online event.
